MANILAau777, Philippines — A homecoming and thanksgiving mass have been scheduled for Pablo Cardinal David of Caloocan.
The mass will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the San Roque Cathedral Parish in Caloocan City.
“Let us come together as one community and offer our prayers for our bishop who has been elevated to the rank of cardinal,” the Diocese of Caloocan said.
David, 65, was elevated by Pope Francis as cardinal on Dec. 7.
He is the first non-archbishop in the Philippines to be appointed as cardinal.
“As far as I know, I would not be given another special assignment. So far, the special assignment that I have received is to be a member of the Synodal Council,” David told CBCPNews.
Born in Pampanga, David is the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, vice president of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference and head of the Diocese of Caloocan.
Pope Francis appointed him as bishop of Caloocan in 2015. au777
